Support
Need help with Kesyn? Check the questions below, or email support@kesyn.danishnasarudin.com. Please don't send photos or details from your journal unless you want us to see them.
Kesyn is a personal journal, not medical advice. It can't diagnose conditions or tell you what caused a reaction, and it isn't for emergencies. If a reaction feels severe or is getting worse quickly, get medical help right away.
Lock Screen food capture
How do I take a food photo from the Lock Screen?
Kesyn has a Log Food control that opens Kesyn's camera without unlocking your iPhone. It needs iOS 18 or later. You can add it in any of these places:
- Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then choose the Lock Screen. Tap − on one of the controls at the bottom to remove it, tap + in the same spot, then find Kesyn and choose Log Food. Tap Done.
- Control Center: open Control Center, tap +, tap Add a Control, then find Kesyn and choose Log Food.
- Action button (on iPhone models that have one): open the iPhone Settings app and go to Action Button, swipe to Controls, tap Choose a Control, then choose Log Food.
The exact wording of these steps can vary between iOS versions.
I took a photo from the Lock Screen. Where is it?
After you take it, the camera shows Photo saved for Kesyn. iOS keeps the photo for Kesyn until you next open Kesyn on an unlocked iPhone. Kesyn then adds it to your timeline at the time you took it.
If Kesyn says a Lock Screen photo couldn't be added, close and open Kesyn again to retry.
The Lock Screen camera asks me to allow camera access
Unlock your iPhone and open Kesyn, then allow camera access. If you turned it off earlier, open the iPhone Settings app and go to Apps → Kesyn (or just Kesyn on some iOS versions) and turn on Camera.
Your journal
How do I export my journal?
In Kesyn, go to Settings → Data → Export Journal. Kesyn shows what will be included, then makes a zip file on your iPhone with your food photos, a journal.json file and a README that explains the format. Choose where to save or send it from the share sheet. Nothing is uploaded, and export is free.
Keep Kesyn open until the export is ready. If your iPhone locks while photos are copying, the export stops; open Kesyn and try again. Anyone who has the export file can read it, so keep it somewhere you trust.
How do I delete one entry?
Open the food log or reaction log in your timeline and choose Delete. You can also swipe left on a reaction in the timeline to delete it.
How do I delete everything?
In Kesyn, go to Settings → Data → Delete All Data and confirm. Kesyn removes all food photos, reactions and tracking choices from this iPhone and returns to setup. This can't be undone, so export first if you want a copy.
Delete All Data doesn't remove exports you already saved, original photos you picked from your photo library, or earlier iPhone backups. Restoring an older backup brings that older journal back.
Backups and new iPhones
Does Kesyn sync with iCloud?
No. Kesyn keeps your journal only on your iPhone. It doesn't sync between devices, and Kesyn has no servers that store a copy.
Is my journal backed up?
Yes, as part of your iPhone backup. Kesyn's journal is included when your iPhone backs up to iCloud Backup or to a computer. Kesyn doesn't make a separate backup, so an iPhone backup or an export is the only way to keep a copy.
How do I move my journal to a new iPhone?
Set up the new iPhone from a backup of your old one. Kesyn's journal comes back with the rest of your apps' data. Timeline previews are rebuilt the first time you open them.
If a photo couldn't be restored, Kesyn keeps the entry and shows Food photo unavailable rather than deleting it.
Other questions
Does Kesyn need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for.
Can Kesyn tell me what caused a reaction?
No. Kesyn records the food photos and reactions you log and lets you review them together in your timeline. It doesn't diagnose conditions, decide what caused a reaction, or recommend treatment or diet changes. Your timeline may help you describe what you noticed to a doctor or other qualified professional.
Who is Kesyn for?
Kesyn is designed for adults keeping their own journal.
Where can I read about privacy?
See the Privacy Policy.
