Privacy Policy
Kesyn is a food and symptom journal for iPhone. This policy explains what the app stores, where it is kept, and what you can do with it. It applies to the current version of the Kesyn iOS app.
The short version
- Your journal stays on your iPhone. Kesyn has no account and no servers that store your diary.
- The app sends nothing to Kesyn. It has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs.
- Kesyn doesn't sync with iCloud. Your journal is included in your iPhone backups, which you control.
- You can export your journal or delete all of it from Kesyn's Settings at any time.
What Kesyn stores on your iPhone
When you use Kesyn, the app keeps the following in its own private storage on your iPhone:
- Food photos you take with Kesyn's camera, with the Log Food control, or choose from your photo library. Kesyn saves a resized copy of each photo. It removes location (GPS) information from the copy it saves.
- Reactions you log, such as the reaction type you chose.
- Times for each food photo and reaction, including the time zone on your iPhone at that moment, so your timeline shows the local time when it happened.
- Your tracking choices: which reactions you track, their order, and the names of any custom reactions you add.
- App setup and housekeeping files, such as whether you finished setup and which Lock Screen photos have already been added to your journal. These contain no photos.
Kesyn doesn't ask for your name, email address or any other contact details. It doesn't request your location, read your contacts, or connect to Apple Health.
Permissions
- Camera. Kesyn asks for camera access so you can take a food photo. Photos are used only to add entries to your journal.
- Photo library. When you choose a photo from your library, iOS shows its own picker and gives Kesyn only the photo you pick. Kesyn copies that photo into your journal. It doesn't get access to the rest of your library, and it doesn't change or delete the original in Photos.
- Lock Screen capture. If you add the Log Food control, you can take a food photo without unlocking your iPhone. iOS holds that photo for Kesyn until you next open Kesyn on an unlocked iPhone, when it is added to your journal. The Lock Screen camera can't see your journal.
What Kesyn doesn't collect
The Kesyn app doesn't send your journal, photos, reactions, or information about how you use the app to Kesyn or to anyone else. There is no Kesyn account, no Kesyn server holding your diary, no analytics or advertising SDK, and no tracking across apps or websites. Kesyn doesn't sell or share personal data.
Information Apple provides to developers
Like every App Store app, Kesyn's developer can see information Apple provides through its developer tools, such as download and sales figures by country, and aggregated usage figures. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may also share crash reports and app performance data with us. Apple controls this under its own privacy policy, and it doesn't include your journal.
Where your data is kept
Your journal lives in Kesyn's private storage on your iPhone. Food photos are stored with iOS file protection that keeps them unreadable while your iPhone is locked.
Kesyn doesn't sync with iCloud, and it keeps no copy of your journal anywhere else. Because of that, your journal moves to a new iPhone only through an iPhone backup and restore.
iPhone backups
Kesyn's journal is included in your iPhone backups, whether you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer. Those backups are created, stored and protected by Apple and by you, under your backup settings. Kesyn has no access to them.
Export your journal
In Kesyn, go to Settings → Data → Export Journal. Kesyn makes a zip file on your iPhone with your food photos, a journal.json file listing your food logs, reactions and tracking choices, and a README that explains them. Nothing is uploaded. You choose where the file goes using the iOS share sheet, for example Save to Files or AirDrop. Export is free.
Anyone who has the export file can read it. Once you save or share it, it is no longer protected by Kesyn, so keep it somewhere you trust.
Delete your data
- One entry. Open a food log or reaction log and choose Delete. Kesyn removes the entry and its photo.
- Everything. In Kesyn, go to Settings → Data → Delete All Data and confirm. Kesyn removes all food photos, reactions and tracking choices from this iPhone, then returns to setup. This can't be undone.
- Deleting the app also removes Kesyn's journal from your iPhone.
Deleting in Kesyn doesn't remove:
- exports you have already saved or shared;
- original photos in your photo library that you picked into Kesyn;
- earlier iPhone backups. Restoring an iPhone from a backup made before you deleted your data brings that older journal back.
How long data is kept
Your journal stays on your iPhone until you delete entries, use Delete All Data, or delete the app. Kesyn never deletes your food photos or reactions on its own. It may clear and rebuild smaller preview images it uses to show your timeline.
Health information
Your food photos and reactions can say something about your health. That is one reason Kesyn keeps them on your iPhone and doesn't send them anywhere.
Kesyn is a personal journal, not medical advice. It can't diagnose conditions or tell you what caused a reaction, and it isn't for emergencies. If a reaction feels severe or is getting worse quickly, get medical help right away.
Age
Kesyn is designed for adults keeping their own journal. It isn't directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Kesyn changes how your data is handled, for example by adding iCloud sync, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the date at the top of this page.
